Gameday Preview - February 19 vs Lethbridge
February 19, 2022 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Medicine Hat Tigers News Release
VS LETHBRIDGE: This is the fifth of eight meetings this season between the Tigers and the Lethbridge Hurricanes. Lethbridge has come out on top in the first four meetings this season, with the last one being on January 15th, the day before the Tigers and Hurricanes swapped overage forwards Logan Barlage and Corson Hopwo. The Hurricanes are currently 19-22-21 which puts them 5th in the Central Division and 9th in the Eastern Conference, just one-point back of the final playoff spot and the Swift Current Broncos.
2021-21 WHL RANKINGS:
Record (9-31-3-1)
Home (6-14-1-0) Central Division - 6th
Away (3-17-2-1) Eastern Conference - 12th
VS CENTRAL DIVISION: The Tigers have a 6-17-1-0 record vs Central Division opponents.
VS EAST DIVISION: The Tigers have a 3-14-2-1 record vs East Division opponents.
LAST GAME: The Tigers travelled to Swift Current to take on the Broncos looking to get back to their winning ways. Swift Current jumped out to an early 2-0 lead before Teague Patton got his 10th goal of the campaign to pull the Tabbies to within one. Bogdans Hodass got the Tigers other marker in the dying seconds of the second period. The Broncos scored four unanswered goals in the third period to take the game 7-2.
MILESTONES: Tigers Captain Daniel Baker played in his 200th career WHL game on January 21st in Saskatoon. Owen MacNeil appeared in his 100th career WHL game vs the Prince Albert Raiders the following night. Rhett Parsons, Oren Shtrom, Oasiz Wiesblatt, Tyler MacKenzie, Pavel Bocharov, Teague Patton and Brayden Boehm, Ashton Ferster and Reid Andresen have each recently played in their 50th career games.
PLAYER TO WATCH: LOGAN BARLAGE was acquired by the Tigers on the WHL Trade Deadline in exchange for Corson Hopwo and a draft pick. Since coming to the Tigers Barlage has five goals and one assist, including back to back multi goal efforts against Calgary and Red Deer. The 6'5 Humboldt, SK native has been a terrific addition to the Tigers squad both on and off the ice, bringing leadership, work ethic and experience to a young Tigers squad. The right shot centreman makes life difficult for opposing goalies not only with his slick hands and hard shot, but with his size, ability to screen, redirect shots, and put home rebounds.
