The Kelowna Rockets opened their weekend with a 3-2 win over the Prince George Cougars on Friday night at the CN Centre in Prince George, BC.
After a slow start that saw the Rockets register just three shots on goal in the first period, Kelowna came to life in the second with 14 shots on net. Mark Liwiski opened the game's scoring just before the end of the second, the two teams then traded goals twice in the third.
Talyn Boyko registered his 18th win of the season after making 26 saves.
With the win, the Rockets record improves to 27-12-1-3.
After a scoreless first period, Mark Liwiski (15) spun in the slot and put the Rockets on the board in the final minutes of the second frame.
Marcus Pacheco (3) jumped on a rebound 1:06 into the third, however, Koehn Ziemmer (20) inched the Cougars back within one just 1:16 later. Adam Kydd (10) passed the puck off to Pavel Novak, then charged to the net put away his rebound on Novak's shot. Riley Heidt (13) pulled Prince George back within one.
Kelowna was zero-for-one with the power play, while Prince George was zero-for-three.
The Rockets outshot the Cougars 29-28.
The Rockets will be back in action again against the Cougars tomorrow at the CN Centre, puck drop is set for 7:00 pm. You can watch on CHL TV or listen on AM 1150.
The Rockets next home game is the Family Day Monday, February 21st when they take on the Tri-City Americans at 2:05 pm.
