Saskatoon Blades News Release

SASKATOON, SK - Brandon Lisowsky's two-goal performance wasn't enough against Arshdeep Bains and the Red Deer Rebels.

Bains led the scoring charge on Friday, scoring twice and adding two assists, pushing the Rebels past the Saskatoon Blades 5-3 at Peavey Mart Centrium.

The loss follows up last Saturday's heroic performance, thrashing Connor Bedard and Regina Pats 6-2 at SaskTel Centre to earn a third straight victory.

Draft-eligible Lisowsky earned the contest's second star with his two-goal performance. Belarusian import Egor Sidorov also tickled the twine, marking his fifth goal in three games.

Forward Trevor Wong found success once again in Red Deer, netting two helpers on the night. Alternate captain Kyle Crnkovic and captain Aidan De La Gorgendiere each had one of their own.

With his assist tonight, Crnkovic is now the first, and only player with 70 points this season. Red Deer's Arshdeep Bains sits one back with 69.

Rebels netminder Connor Ungar made 14 stops in the win, helping Red Deer improve to 30-15-2-1 on the year. Blades goaltender Nolan Maier stopped 25 of 29 shots as Saskatoon falls to 26-17-1-1 on the campaign.

The Rebels struck first midway through the first after Arshdeep Bains split the defensemen and netted his 66th point of the year.

But Saskatoon answered back less than three minutes later. Rebels defensemen Jackson van de Leest misplayed the puck and Wong was there to it pick up and shovel it to Lisowsky who made no mistake, going far side on Ungar.

The score remained a tie until midway through the second when Red Deer's powerplay unit went to work. The Rebels scored two goals in 1:17 thanks to a Kalan Lind tip-in and a Ben King snapshot.

The two-goal lead lasted only six minutes.

Just 30 seconds after King put Red Deer up 3-1, Wong sent a hard pass to Sidorov in the slot who wired his 15th of the season beyond Ungar. Five minutes later, Lisowsky released a hard snapshot over the blocker-side pad of the Rebels netminder, collecting his seventh goal in the last nine games.

Both teams battled through the final frame, but Bains scored the eventual game-winner crossing the midway mark of the period. Saskatoon pressed in the final minutes, and pulled Maier with a little over a minute to go, but Jace Isley was there to ice any hope of a comeback with an empty netter.

This is the first of a five-game road trip for the Blue & Gold. They'll continue trekking through Alberta tomorrow, heading north to the provincial capital to face the Oil Kings Saturday night. The boys will conclude a three-in-three long weekend in Calgary on Sunday, then head east to Brandon for a pair of tilts against the Wheat Kings.
