Americans Fall 6-2 at Home to Winterhawks

The Americans were defeated 6-2 by the Portland Winterhawks at the Toyota Center.

After a competitive and scoreless first period, the Americans opened scoring 7:10 into the second frame with a goal from Marc Lajoie. The goal, the defenseman's eighth of the season, came as he tossed in a rebound past Winterhawks netminder Dante Giannuzzi.

Less than a minute later, James Stefan tied the game for Portland with a power play goal.

Just seconds later Sam Huo scored with a wrist shot from the high slot to put the Americans back in front with a 2-1 lead.

Tri-City nearly carried their one-goal lead into the second intermission, but with seconds remaining in the second period Aidan Litke scored to once again tie the game for Portland. The Winterhawks' scoring continued as they pulled away in the third period. Portland added four more goals, three from Robbie Fromm-Delorme and one from Game Klassen, to secure the 6-2 victory.

Nick Avakyan, who turned 18 today, played in net tonight for the Americans. He turned aside 40 of 45 shots faced.

Tri-City is back at home tomorrow to take on the Spokane Chiefs.
