Prince Albert Raiders News Release
Prince Albert, Sask. - The Prince Albert Raiders (17-25-2-1) picked up a point in a 5-4 overtime loss to the Regina Pats (18-23-1-1) on Friday night at the Art Hauser Centre.
Landon Kosior had a pair of power-play goals for the Raiders in the loss. Reece Vitelli and Ozzy Wiesblatt each chipped in two assists. Cale Sanders and Carson Latimer also scored for the Raiders.
The Raiders got off to a quick start in the contest thanks to a pair of ex-Pats. Sloan Stanick avoided a check at the offensive blueline to set up a two-on-one with Sanders. Stanick sent a cross-crease pass to Sanders who lifted it over Drew Sim for his 11th of the year, putting the Raiders up 1-0 1:09 into the contest.
At the 5:55 mark, the Pats struck back. Layton Feist carried the puck into the Raiders' end, got around a defenceman and chipped a shot past Tikhon Chaika's glove to level the score.
Latimer restored the Raiders' lead with 5:46 to go in the opening frame. Vladislav Shilo got the puck at the top of the crease and had a couple whacks towards goal. The puck got behind Sim, which led to Latimer finding the loose puck in the blue paint and depositing his 11th goal of the season to give the Raiders a 2-1 advantage after 20 minutes.
The Pats tied things up 5:51 into the middle frame during a period of four-on-four hockey. Borya Valis stepped over the blueline and put a shot on goal that got past Chaika to make it a 2-2 game.
Less than two minutes later, Regina took its first lead of the game. Tanner Howe put a shot towards goal from the left point. It got through a screen in front of Chaika and into the Raiders' net to put the Pats ahead 3-2.
The Raiders responded with two quick goals late in the second period as they took full advantage of a five-on-three power play. Off the faceoff in the offensive zone, Nolan Allan worked the puck to Vitelli. The Raiders captain sent a cross-zone pass to Kosior who fired it past Sim on the short side to pick up his 11th goal of the year with 3:53 to play in the frame.
Just 1:15 later, Kosior struck again. Vitelli found the Raiders defenceman at the left faceoff circle. Kosior took a step towards the centre of the zone and snapped a shot that beat Sim over his blocker to give the Raiders a 4-3 lead heading into the third period.
The lead held until there was 4:31 left in the third. Connor Bedard came in on the right wing and put a shot on goal that was kicked aside by Chaika. Cole Carrier was trailing the play and deposited the rebound to make it a 4-4 game, sending things to overtime.
In the extra frame, Bedard entered the zone on a two-on-one rush with Ryker Evans. Bedard decided to keep and snapped a shot that beat Chaika 24 seconds into the overtime period to give the Pats the 5-4 win and the extra point.
Chaika finished the game with 31 saves in the loss for the Raiders. Sim made 22 saves to pick up the win for the Pats.
The Raiders are back in action tomorrow night when they host the Moose Jaw Warriors. The Raiders will be wearing special throwback jerseys for the game. The jerseys are currently up for auction on 32auctions.com. The online portion of the auction wraps up on Saturday at Noon CST. The jerseys not bought outright will be available via silent auction at Saturday's game.
Tickets for Saturday are available at SaskTix.ca or at the Raiders Box Office, which opens on Saturday morning at 10 a.m.
