Charlotte Checkers News Release
Biloxi, Miss. - During the three game road swing in Mississippi, the Checkers and Sea Wolves split the first two by close margins. Things didn't remain that way in the third contest as Mississippi would win by a score of 7-1.
Mississippi received a four minute power play due to a high stick called on Checkers forward, Mike Bayrack. They used that time effectively scoring two goals on Checkers netminder Mike Ayers. The first was by Ryan Menei at 3:29 and the second by Stanislav Lascek at 4:20. Both goals came from rebound chances in close range. Lascek would score his second of the game at 17:32 on a two-on-one break as he fired a rebound shot in the net off the initial try by Jason Tejchma that was turned aside by Ayers. This helped the Sea Wolves to a 3-0 lead after twenty minutes.
There was no scoring in the middle frame, but Mississippi kept the pressure on Charlotte during the third period as Mike Couch redirected a pass from Lascek at 5:33 giving Mississippi a 4-0 lead. The Sea Wolves would add two goals from Mark Hurtubise, one on the power play. This extended the lead to 6-0. Charlotte would answer with a goal from Mark Lee while sporting a two-man advantage bringing the game to a 6-1 lead for Mississippi. During the ensuing power-play, the Sea Wolves struck shorthanded on a breakaway goal from Mark Rooneem at 18:15. The game would end with the Checkers losing by a score of 7-1.
Notes: Charlotte had eight power-play chances and scored once while Mississippi scored three times on 10 tries...Ayers stopped 27 of 34 shots while Munce turned aside 31 of 32.
