Alaska Aces News Release
PHOENIX - Dusty Jamieson scored twice and Taylor Dakers stopped 34 shots as the Phoenix RoadRunners snapped a nine-game Alaska winning streak with a 5-1 win over the Aces before 3,904 Sunday afternoon at US Airways Center.
Jamieson scored the first of his two goals on the power play to give Phoenix its first lead of the series at 9:52 of the opening period. Late in the frame, defenseman Ian Turner drove down the left wing, faked a centering pass, and banged a shot off the pads of a fooled Derek Gustafson, who was making his first start for Alaska in 23 days.
Trailing 2-0 despite a 10-8 advantage in shots on goal during the opening 20 minutes, the Aces managed just seven shots in the second period and fell further behind when Jamieson rammed home his second of the game from point blank range at 5:05 of the middle frame. Daniel Sisca scored his third goal of the series with 7:27 left in the period, giving the 'Runners a commanding 4-0 lead at the break.
Brett Hemingway finally put Alaska on the board with his fifth goal in nine games for the Aces on the power play at 5:42, but Phoenix kept the visitors at bay, tacking on an insurance tally with 4:10 left in the third period, and ending its own eight-game winless skid. The Aces (30-20-5 overall, 10 points out of the West Division lead) fly home tonight and play five games in six nights at Sullivan Arena next week, beginning Tuesday at 7:15 p.m. against Idaho, when all tickets in the balcony will be sold for five bucks (not including fees) when fans purchase those tickets at the team offices, located at 15th and Gambell. In addition to the reduced ticket prices, hot dogs and sodas will be sold at the game for one dollar each.
The busy week continues with a rematch against the Steelheads Wednesday, followed by games against Victoria Friday, Saturday and Sunday. All games start at 7:15 p.m. with the exception of Sunday's finale, which gets underway at 5:05 p.m. and features a post-game "Skate with the Aces," presented by Fred Meyer. All regular season games are broadcast live on AM 750 KFQD, with coverage beginning 15 minutes prior to face-off.
