Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
STOCKTON, California - The Stockton Thunder rode a 42 save performance from Tim Boronin collecting a 3-1 win over the Cincinnati Cyclones on Saturday. The defeat ended an ECHL record 17 game winning streak for the Cyclones.
Stockton opened the scoring 13:33 into the first period when Lance Monych tallied his 27th goal of the season, grabbing a rebound in the slot and slamming it past Cyclones goaltender Max Daigneault. Pat Bateman and Brandon Schwartz added the assists. The Thunder outshot Cincinnati, 14-7, in the opening period.
The Thunder extended the lead with a shorthanded goal from Brandon Schwartz at 17:41 of the frame. The goal was Schwartz' 15th of the season. David Rohlfs and Tim O'Connell had the assists.
In the third period, the Cyclones had a goal from David Desharnais at 12:44. It was Desharnais' 16th goal of the season and his 23rd straight game with a point. Thomas Beauregard and Matt Syroczynski had the assists. Mathieu Aubin had a shot hit the goal post in the final seconds that would have tied the game-but the rebound led to a Tom Zanoski emptynet goal with seven seconds to go to close out the scoring.
The Cyclones began their 17-game winning streak against Dayton on Jan. 16 in a 3-2 win. The club had outscored the opposition, 68-27, during the run. It is the longest winning streak in ECHL history, breaking the mark set by Knoxville (1992-93) and Louisiana (2001-02).
The Cincinnati Cyclones are 33 games above .500, with a 42-9-3 record and sole possession of first place in the North Division-eighteen points ahead of second place Reading and Elmira. The loss still gives Cincinnati a 26-3-1 record since December 15. Stockton is 23-31-3. The 42 wins are the most ever by the club.
The Cyclones continue their California swing with a Monday night visit (10pm ET) at Bakersfield. That game will be carried on 96 Rock, with the faceoff at 10pm.
