One goal enough for Stingrays in shutout of Lynx

Augusta Lynx News Release

The Augusta Lynx played good enough to win a well-fought road game on Sunday night in South Carolina, but thanks to 34 saves by Stingrays goaltender Josh Johnson the Lynx were denied a win for the third straight game, falling 1-0.

Lynx goaltender #30 Bobby Goepfert gave an equally impressive performance in between the pipes for the Lynx, including two breakaway saves in the 1st period.

The 2nd period saw the Stingrays go up 1-0 on a power play goal by leading-scorer Travis Morin, who smashed home a pass from behind the net past a helpless Gopfert. The rest of the way out was an all-out Lynx attack as they outshot the Stingrays 34-22 for the game.

The Lynx thought they had the game tied up in the 3rd period with a goal from #14 Tim Branham, but referee Ryan Sweeney had ruled that Branham had used a kicking motion when he deflected the puck behind Johnson for the 1-1 tie. The goal was waived off, and the 'Rays held onto the 1-0 lead for the remainder of the game.

The Lynx had plenty of power play chances in the game, but for the second straight night failed to score with the man advantage, going 0 for 7 on this night. The loss was the Lynx 25th of the season.
