Johnstown Chiefs News Release

Elmira, NY - The Johnstown Chiefs players, coaches, and staff send their sincere thanks to all of the fans who made the bus trip to Reading for the team's 5-3 win on Saturday night.

From the Fan Club organizing and promoting the trip, to the 90- plus fans who filled the two buses for the three-and-a-half hour drive east; your support and enthusiam was fantastic, and played a definite role in a great win for the Chiefs on Saturday.

Chiefs head coach Ian Herbers said of the rowdy group of Chiefs fans, "They were great. They were loud and enthusiastic the entire game, and the team was really able to feed off of that energy."

The team used that energy to spur comebacks from deficits of 1-0 and 2-1 before putting a cap on the 5-3 win with a Randy Rowe empty-net goal with two seconds left.

The best part of the night came after the game where, nearly the entire group of fans who made the trip, waited outside the Chiefs' entrance to the Sovereign Center, in sub-freezing temperatures, and gave an ovation for each player as they left the arena and boarded the bus. Handshakes and high-fives abounded before the Chiefs hit the road for Sunday's game against the Elmira Jackals.

With a smile on his face as he boarded the bus, Chiefs' rookie defenseman Brandon Straub said of the cheering mob, "That was awesome."

So, again, to the Chiefs Fan Club and every single person who lent their time, money, and their voice to helping the Chiefs to victory on Saturday, and throughout the season: Thank You!
