Charlotte Checkers News Release
Charlotte, N.C. - The Charlotte Checkers lost their three previous games to the Everblades but, that streak would end with a victory over Florida tonight extracting some revenge with a 3-2 win.
The scoring started early in the second period for Charlotte. Defenseman, Kenny Smith received a nice pass from Mike Bayrack in the high slot and blasted the puck behind Florida goaltender Kevin Nastiuk at :34. This gave Charlotte a 1-0 lead. Later, it was Jeff Kyrzakos deflecting a Michael Busto point shot on the power play at 6:03 putting Charlotte up, 2-0. Charlotte would capture a 3-0 lead after Mike Bayrack blasted in a one-timer from the right wing side while the Checkers sported a man-advantage at 14:59. Florida would finally beat netminder, Chris Holt in the dying minutes of the second period. Brad Herauf took the puck down the right wing boards, skated to the slot and flipped a wrist shot over the goalie's catching glove at 18:45. The period expired with Charlotte up, 3-1.
The last period brought tension for the Checkers as they surrendered another goal to the Everblades. Mike McLean blasted a one-time shot that flew past Holt at 4:24. This cut the Checkers lead to 3-2. However, Florida was unable to find the tying goal and Charlotte would skate away stopping a three game losing skid.
