Alaska Aces News Release
FRESNO, Calif. - F.P. Guenette and Peter Metcalf had a goal and an assist as Alaska completed a 3-0 road trip with a 4-3 win over the Fresno Falcons in front of 3,027 Tuesday at the Save-Mart Center.
Metcalf scored the game's first goal only 3:48 into a game in which the Aces never trailed, although Fresno's Matt Stefanishion tied the contest with 1:36 left in the opening period. Alaska dominated the second, out-shooting the Falcons 16-5 and chasing Fresno starter Kris Mayotte with goals by Olivier Filion at 4:40 and Guenette's five minutes later. Guenette now has 13 goals on the year, matching his career-high.
With Jake Moreland now in the pipes, the Falcons trimmed the lead to 3-2 on a power play tip-in by Igor Gongalsky at 12:27 of the middle frame, but with six minutes to go in the period, Michael Lambert answered with a power play goal of his own, his third in six games with the Aces. Fresno scored in a five-on-three situation just 27 seconds into the final period, courtesy of Brady Leisenring, but Alaska starter Marek Schwarz stopped the remaining 14 shots that came his way, finishing with 27 saves and improving his ECHL record to 3-0. The Aces dealt the Falcons only their second loss in their last 12 games overall and just their second defeat in the last 13 at home.
Alaska, now 25-19-5 overall, has won four straight games heading into their three-game series against Pacific Division-leading Las Vegas this weekend at Sullivan Arena. The Aces have yet to face the Wranglers (35-10-7) this season, and went 0-5-1 last year in the head-to-head competition, leaving them without a win over Vegas since May 2, 2006, the night they eliminated the Wranglers in triple overtime of Game Six in the Kelly Cup playoffs. Friday and Saturday night's games begin at 7:15 p.m., while Sunday's series finale will start at 5:05 p.m. All regular season games are broadcast live on Alaska's flagship station, AM 750 KFQD, with coverage beginning 15 minutes prior to face-off.
