Columbia Inferno News Release
COLUMBIA, S.C. (Feb. 20, 2008)-The Columbia Inferno (22-20-4-6, 54 points) fell to the South Carolina Stingrays (33-17-1-1, 68 points) 5-1 on Wednesday night, snapping a four-game winning streak in the process. Stingrays winger Marty Guerin gave his club an early 1-0 victory when he converted a one-timer from Chris Chaput past Todd Ford almost 11 minutes into the first. Chaput scored a goal of his own, with help from Guerin, just 90 seconds later when he collected a loose puck in front of the net and sent it past Ford.
South Carolina winger Trent Campbell put his club up 3-0 6:30 into the second when he collected Steve Pinizzotto's pass sent from behind the net and rifled a one-timer through Ford's legs.
Guerin tallied his second of the night just two minutes into the third when he converted his opportunity on an odd-man rush to give the Stingrays a 4-0 lead. Defenseman Scott Romfo gave his club a 5-0 lead just 15 seconds later when he collected a Nate Kizer pass in front of the net and roofed it up and over Ford's blocker-side shoulder, effectively ending Ford's night. Inferno forward Steve McJannet finally put his club on the board and broke Davis Parley's shutout bid with 90 seconds left in the third period when he collected a rebound and beat Parley's glove.
Parley finished with 35 saves on 36 shots, Ford stopped 22 of 27 and Jakaitis turned aside all seven shots he faced.
The Inferno return to the Carolina Coliseum on Friday, February 29 to host the Gwinnett Gladiators at 7:05 p.m.
