
Florida's Rookie Melanson Named In Glas Co Player Of The Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Florida rookie right wing Mathieu
Melanson is the In Glas Co ECHL Player of the Week for Feb.
11-17.
The Shediac, New Brunswick native had four goals and seven points to help
the Everblades go 4-0-0 and move to within four points of third-place South
Carolina in the South Division.
After scoring the game-winning goal and also registering an assist in a 2-1
win against Charlotte on Feb. 15, the 22 year old had two assists in a 6-3
win against the Checkers on Feb. 16 and then recorded his second hat trick
of the season in a 7-3 win on Feb. 17.
Drafted in the eighth round (251st overall) to the Minnesota Wild in the
2003 NHL Entry Draft, Melanson is tied for third among ECHL rookies with
five game-winning goals while his 24 goals tie him for fourth and his 49
points in 35 games tie him for seventh among first-year players. He is tied
for eighth overall in game-winning goals and tied for 10th in goals.
The 6-foot-2 and 200-pound forward had 26 points (14g-12a) and 10 penalty
minutes in 17 regular season games and three assists and 10 penalty minutes
in six Kelly Cup Playoff games with Stockton last season.
Prior to turning professional, Melanson played four seasons in the Quebec
Major Junior Hockey League where he had 238 points (106g-132a) and 243
penalty minutes in 259 regular season games and 50 points (30g-20a) and 67
penalty minutes in 45 playoffs games for Chicoutimi and Quebec from
2002-06. He helped Quebec win the Memorial Cup in 2006 after having career
highs in the regular season with 42 goals, 44 assists and 86 points in 59
games and in the postseason with 25 goals, 15 assists and 40 points in 23
playoff games.

Melanson, a case of pucks will be donated to a Estero area youth hockey
organization by In Glas Co, the exclusive puck supplier for the
ECHL. Since beginning its sponsorship of the award in 2000-01, In Glas
Co has donated more than 19,000 pucks to youth hockey organizations in
ECHL cities.
