Reading Royals News Release

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals (29-17-4=62, 3rd North Division) of the ECHL battled back from two separate deficits to get to overtime, where Reading converted on the power play to take the two points against the Elmira Jackals, 3-2. This marked the third time (in eight games) this season that a game between the Royals and Jackals has been resolved in overtime with Reading getting the better of things twice-both at the Sovereign Center-while the Jackals took one in OT in Elmira. Dany Roussin picked up his second career overtime game winner for Reading (his other came on February 3, 2006 against the Wheeling Nailers) with just 48 seconds remaining in the extra session. Goaltender Jon Quick (21-11-3; 18/20) won for the tenth time in the last thirteen games (10-2-1); while Ervins Mustukovs (1-0-1; 29/32) continued to confound the Royals (dating back to his stint with the Toledo Storm last season), but took the OTL.

Elmira struck first 8:43 into the game while on their second power play of the night. Pierre Luc Faubert walked off the right wall and cut deep into the right circle where he fired a low hard snap shot on goal. Quick got a piece of it with his stick, but not enough as it slipped through his legs for Faubert's twenty-first goal of the year. Reading tied the game at the 2:54 mark of the second period with Scott Parse's first goal as a pro. After an extended forecheck, Charlie Kronschnabel stole in the left corner and fed Ned Lukacevic in the high slot. Lukacevic faked a shot and instead passed to the left side of the goal where Parse was able to control the puck, cut to the front of the net and jam it between the legs of Mustokovs to make it 1-1.

The Jackals took their second lead of the game (at 2-1) at the 5:07 mark of the third. Luke Fulghum carried deep on the left wing side and fired a hard shot that deflected off Quick's left arm and floated into the net for Fulghum's fourteenth goal of the year. Reading re-tied the game with just 6:30 remaining in regulation. Charlie Kronschnabel won an offensive zone faceoff to the top of the left circle, where Lukacevic settled and fired. Mustukovs made the stop but the rebound fell to the top of the crease, where Kronschnabel charged in, reached out, and slipped the puck through for his ninth of the year. In overtime, the two teams traded a couple of chances; but the Royals got the benefit of a power play when Faubert was called for throwing his stick at a puck that slid by him on the way to an icing call with just 1:35 remaining. Reading capitalized with just 48 seconds left when the team worked the puck on the perimeter with Marc Cavosie feeding Patrik Hersley, who slid the puck to the top of the crease, where Roussin was able to re-direct the puck over Mustukovs for his fifteenth goal-and first game winner-of the year.

The Royals return to action on Friday night (Saturday 22 @ 7:05 pm) when the Trenton Devils visit the Sovereign Center. That night, the first 1500 fans 21 years of age and older will receive an 'R-Team/R-Town' pub glass courtesy of All Star Distributing. The game night broadcast that night will begin at 6:35 pm with the pre-game warm-up show on ESPN Radio 1240 am in Ephrata, as well as on the internet through the Royals' website, www.royalshockey.com. Streaming video is available on a pay per view basis through the B2 Networks.
