Fresno Falcons News Release

Fresno, Calif. - The Fresno Falcons announced today that the team will take part in St. Baldrick's Day for the second consecutive year. This year's event, part of the Falcons Face-off Against Kids Cancer Program, presented by HRH Insurance, will take place on the Save Mart Center ice following the March 21 game against the Bakersfield Condors.

Once again this year, Supercuts will provide the hair cuts, in addition to providing free Falcons hats to the first 2,000 fans in attendance at the March 21 game. Fans can log-on to the St. Baldrick's Day website at www.stbaldricks.org and search for the Fresno Falcons, or can link directly to the Falcons page from the Falcons website at www.fresnofalcons.com. Fans can make donations to see their favorite player or staff member have their head shaved, with all proceeds benefitting pediatric cancer. All donations are tax deductible.

Falcons head coach and general manager Matt Thomas is also requesting that local business and area schools join the Falcons' team for St. Baldrick's Day to make this night a Fresno-area event to raise money for pediatric cancer.

"This is an event that I have been a part of for several years," Thomas said. "Not only is it a fun time and a neat concept, it truly does make a difference for those with pediatric cancer. The Falcons would love to see a large number of businesses and schools from the area join us in shaving their heads on March 21, and making this a community event that everyone can be proud of."

St. Baldrick's Day began in 1999, when three friends were looking for a way to give back to society. They suggested shaving their heads, since kids typically lose their hair during cancer treatment. The three planned to raise "$17,000 on the 17th," recruiting 17 colleagues to raise $1,000 each to be shaved. Instead, the first St. Baldrick's event, held on March 17, 2000, raised over $140,000. In eight years, events have taken place in 18 countries and 46 U.S. states, raising over $34 million, and shaving more than 46,000 heads.

The Falcons return to action on Friday, hosting the Stockton Thunder at 7:30 p.m. It's Rodeo at the Rink, presented by U.S. Army, 93.7 KISS Country, and Mega 97.9. The first 3,000 fans in attendance receive a free bandana, and fans can also bit on several items in a silent auction to benefit the Central California Blood Center. Following the game, join the Falcons players for a post-game party at Logan's Roadhouse, located at Blackstone and El Paso, across from River Park.

Tickets for all Falcons home games can be purchased at the Save Mart Center Box Office, or through TicketMaster at (559) 485-8497 or www.ticketmaster.com. All Falcons' games are broadcast on 790 ESPN Radio, The Deuce, starting 15 minutes prior to face-off with the Port of Subs Pre-Game Show.
