
Cincinnat's Desharnais Has 15-Game Assist Streak

PRINCETON, N.J. - Cincinnati rookie David
Desharnais has recorded an assist in 15 consecutive games, tying the
second-longest assist streak in ECHL history.
The 21 year old has tied the mark set by Mike Reier of Dayton from Oct.
23-Nov. 28, 1992 (24 assists) and equaled by Scott
Bertoli of Trenton from Feb. 16-Apr. 4, 2000 (21 assists).
The ECHL record is 17 consecutive games by Peter Kasowski of Roanoke
Valley from Oct. 26-Dec. 7, 1991 (28 assists).
The Cyclones host Dayton on Thursday, Johnstown on Friday and Elmira on
Saturday.
In his first professional season and under contract to Hamilton of the
American Hockey League, Desharnais began his streak on Jan. 5 with two
assists against Reading. He has 22 assists in the 15 games during which he
has had five games with two assists and one game with three assists.
Desharnais has a 17-game point streak (3g-24a) that began with two assists
on Dec. 31 at Trenton. The ECHL point streak record is 38 games by Trevor
Jobe, who scored 112 points from Dec. 19, 1992-Mar. 14, 1993.
He leads ECHL rookies with 46 assists, 22 power-play assists and 60 points
in 44 games while ranking second overall in assists and power-play assists
and tied for second in points. He scored a career-high three goals and four
points on Dec. 27 at Wheeling and has had a career-high three assists on
Nov. 23 against Dayton and Feb. 1 at Wheeling.
Earlier this season Jeff
Campbell of Gwinnett had a 13-game assist streak from Nov. 30-Dec. 28
(20 assists) which was the longest streak since Dany Bousquet of Pee Dee
had an assist in 12 consecutive games from Mar. 3-29, 2002.

ECHL
Celebrating its 20th Anniversary in 2007-08, the ECHL is the Premier 'AA'
Hockey League and the third-longest tenured professional hockey league
behind only the National Hockey League and the American Hockey League.
ECHL began in 1988-89 with five teams in four states and has grown to be a
coast-to-coast league with 25 teams playing 900 games in 17 states and
British Columbia in 2007-08.
The league officially changed its name to ECHL on May 19, 2003.
The ECHL has affiliations with 26 of the 30 teams in the NHL in 2007-08,
marking the 11th consecutive season that the league has had affiliations
with at least 20 teams in the NHL.
There have been 349
former ECHL players who have gone on to play in the NHL after playing in
the ECHL, including a record 47 in 2005-06 and 26 in 2006-07. There have
been 204 former ECHL players who have played their first game in the NHL in
the past five seasons.
There are 15 coaches in the NHL who have ECHL experience including former
Wheeling coach Peter Laviolette, who is head coach of the Carolina
Hurricanes, and former Mississippi coach Bruce
Boudreau, who is head coach of the Washington Capitals.
The ECHL is represented for the seventh consecutive year on the National
Hockey League championship team in 2007 with Anaheim assistant coach Dave
Farrish, players Francois Beauchemin and George Parros and broadcasters
John Ahlers and Steve Carroll.
The ECHL has affiliations with 26 of the 29 teams in the American Hockey
League in 2007-08 and for the past 18 years there has been an ECHL player
on the Calder Cup champion.
In each of the last two seasons there have been more than 225 players who
have played in both the ECHL and the AHL and there were over 800 call-ups
involving more than 500 players. In the last five seasons the ECHL has had
more call-ups to the AHL than all other professional leagues combined with
over 2,000 call-ups involving more than 1,000 players since 2002-03.
