Elmira Jackals News Release
READING, PA - Dany Roussin's power play goal with 48.5 seconds left in overtime lifted the Reading Royals to a 3-2 win over the Elmira Jackals Wednesday night at Sovereign Center in front of 4,871 fans in Reading, PA.
Roussin's goal was set up by a Pierre-Luc Faubert penalty for throwing his stick at an errant outlet pass that went down past him on an icing call. Marc Cavosie set Roussin up with a pass from the bottom of the right circle and Roussin slammed it home for his 15th goal of the year.
Faubert gave the visitors a 1-0 lead 8:43 into the game with his team-leading 21st goal of the year as his wrister from the right circle hit the stick of Royals goaltender Jonathan Quick ( xx saves) and settled in the back of the net on the club's second power play chance.
The opening period was punctuated by steady pressure by the Royals for the first 14 minutes of the contest, but Jackals netminder Ervins Mustukovs stopped all 13 shots a night after his Jackals debut yielded 30 saves in a 6-2 win over Trenton at First Arena.
With goals at a premium in the first forty minutes, the Royals drew the only scoring strike of the middle frame after some sloppy play by the Jackals defensive unit.
Stalling on a couple of clearing chances in their own end, Elmira paid the price as Scott Parse came off of a soft check and worked loose to the deep slot. He got Mustukovs to open the pads slightly and slipped home his first of the year to tie the game at 1-1 just 2:54 into the period.
The clubs swapped goals in the final period of regulation with Luke Fulghum giving Elmira its final lead at 5:07 when his wrister rode up on Quick and into the net for a 2-1 advantage.
Charlie Kronschnabel answered back with 6:30 left in the third when he jumped on a loose puck off of a face-off win and zipped in the tying marker from the deep slot.
The Royals finished the night with a 32-20 shots advantage while their only power play goal of the night in six chances provided the winning margin. Elmira converted on one of its two man-up situations.
With the win, the Royals close to within five points of the second place Jackals as Elmira heads to Wheeling for a Friday night tilt at 7:35 p.m. The Hill Top Inn Countdown to Face-Off begins Friday's broadcast on MAGIC-FM (92.7/97.7) at 7:05 p.m.
