Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
Royals southpaw Eric Skoglund tossed five shutout frames as part of his Major League Rehab Assignment with the Storm Chasers, while Omaha pulled ahead with a three-run seventh inning to defeat the New Orleans Baby Cakes 3-1 on Saturday evening at the Shrine on Airline.
Skoglund (5.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K) scattered three hits in his five innings of work, though he did not factor in the final decision. Southpaw Jerry Vasto (1.0 IP, 2 H, R, 0 ER, K) earned the win in his Omaha debut after joining the team earlier in the day after being acquired in a trade from the Colorado Rockies, while Kevin Lenik (2.0 IP, 2 H, 2 BB, K) and Jason Adam (1.0 IP, BB, K) earned the hold and save, respectively. Baby Cakes reliever Dylan Lee (1.2 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 2 K) suffered the defeat.
New Orleans grabbed the initial advantage with a single score in the sixth, however the Storm Chasers answered right back with a trio of tallies in the next half frame. SS Jack Lopez evened the contest with an RBI double to center before 2B Ramon Torres pushed Omaha ahead with a run-scoring knock to left. Jack Lopez would then come across on DH Nicky Lopez 's sacrifice bunt to extend the lead to two.
Jack Lopez (2-5, R, 2B, RBI) was the only Omaha batter to record a multi-hit effort, while Baby Cakes LF Christopher Bostick (2-4) also recorded two knocks. Storm Chasers 1B Frank Schwindel recorded a hit, though it was not a double, to remain one two-bagger shy of matching the Omaha franchise's single-season doubles record of 37.
The two teams are set to face off in the third game of their four-game set on Saturday evening, with first pitch scheduled for 6:00pm CT. Omaha is anticipated to send RHP Arnaldo Hernandez (5-1, 3.54) to the hill, while New Orleans is expected to give the nod to RHP Tyler Cloyd (5-5, 5.33).
The Storm Chasers begin their 2019 home slate at Werner Park on Tuesday, April 9 versus the Oklahoma City Dodgers. Ticket packages for the 2019 season are available. For more information, fans may contact the Werner Park Ticket Office at (402) 738-5100 or email tickets@omahastormchasers.com.
