NASHVILLE - The Nashville Sounds came out on the wrong end of a 2-1 score Sunday night against the Memphis Redbirds in front of a season-high 11,692 fans at First Tennessee Park.

Nashville's Eric Jokisch and Memphis' Jake Woodford battled it out on the mound as both starters looked sharp. For Woodford it was his first start in his last six in which he allowed fewer than four runs. He gave up just one run on three hits in six innings. He struck out the side in the first inning and did not record a nother strikeout in his final five frames.

Memphis broke the scoreless tie in the sixth inning. Jokisch allowed the first three batters to reach base in the frame. Ramon Urias got the frame started with a two-bagger, Tommy Edman then drew a walk, and Wilfredo Tovar drove them both in with a double.

Jokisch finished the night with his fifth consecutive quality start and wraps up the 2018 season as the team leader in that category with 11. He allowed two runs on five hits in seven innings of work while striking out eight batters. His eight punch outs were the second most in a game this season for this southpaw.

Nashville cut the lead in half in the seventh inning unconventionally. Sean Murphy drew a leadoff walk, advanced to second on a Sheldon Neuse single, and to third on a double play. With Steve Lombardozzi at the plate, Memphis' Tommy Layne was called for a balk that allowed Murphy to score Nashville's first run of the game.

The Sounds looked to start a rally in the ninth inning after a Boog Powell single started the inning. The Redbirds then turned to Edward Mujica out of the bullpen who induced a double play and then struck out Sean Murphy to close out the game and pick up his 13th save of the season.

The season finale is scheduled for Monday afternoon at First Tennessee Park. Right-hander Sam Bragg (0-0, --) starts for the Sounds against right-hander Chris Ellis (6-4, 3.86) for the Redbirds. First pitch is scheduled for 12:05 p.m.

Post-Game Notes

With tonight's 2-1 loss, the Sounds dropped to 71-68 on the season.

Nick Martini's on-base streak was snapped at 66 games after an 0-for4 night at the plate. Martini's streak was the longest by a Nashville player in the Pacific Coast League era. The 66-game on-base streak is the second-longest in professional baseball since at least 2009 when MLBAM began tracking the statistic.

Tonight's crowd of 11,692 was the largest crowd this season and pushed the season total to 595,353 to set a new single-season record at First Tennessee Park.
