CF Montréal to Retire Number 12 on Sunday
May 19, 2022 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Club de Foot Montreal News Release
MONTREAL - CF Montréal will be returning the number 12 to its fans this Sunday, during the match against Real Salt Lake, scheduled for 4pm at Stade Saputo.
This gesture aims to underscore the importance and contribution of the Club's fans, who are the driving force behind Stade Saputo's atmosphere and who generate the energy that drives the 11 players on the pitch during every match. The number will be retired in perpetuity and will no longer be worn. A permanent banner will also be displayed inside the stadium, serving as a reminder every match of the crucial contribution of the team's twelfth player. Originally ceded to fans in 2012 when the team entered MLS, the initiative ended in 2020.
All tickets for this match are 12% off HERE and Members can purchase additional tickets for just $12 (plus applicable taxes). Tickets for the Canadian Championship quarterfinal match against Forge FC, this Wednesday, May 25 at 7pm at Stade Saputo, are also available starting at $12 (plus applicable taxes) HERE.
The organization will also take the opportunity to reconnect with some of its former players who dawned the number 12 since the Club's first season in 1993, including Patrick Diotte (1993-1998, 2000-2001), Eduardo Sebrango (2002-2005, 2009-2010), Sandro Grande (2008) and Amir Lowery (2011) who will all participate in the halftime celebrations.
Throughout the stadium concessions, several deals will be available for $12 combos. Food trucks from BeaverTails, Glutineries (gluten free) and Gaspesia Bistro Le Spot will be back on Sunday. Two ice cream carts will also be present.
At the Stade Saputo boutique, mini soccer balls (size 1) will be on sale for $12. In addition, all hats and caps for men, women and children will be on sale at 25% off. This special offer will also begin online Friday HERE.
The organization is also concurrently raffling off 12 special giveaways via its social media this week.
It is strongly suggested to arrive early as access to the Olympic Park area and parking lots will be more congested on Sunday due to the Metro Metro Festival being held on the Olympic Stadium Esplanade. Public transit users are encouraged to use the Viau metro station.
