Houston Dynamo FC News Release
HOUSTON - Houston Dynamo FC fell to Seattle Sounders FC on Wednesday evening at PNC Stadium by a final score of 1-0.
Seattle took the lead in the 28th minute after forward Jordan Morris dribbled to the byline and played the ball back across the face of goal to midfielder Alex Roldan. The Dynamo defense closed the space on Roldan, but he was able to slip a pass to the far post for forward Raul Ruidiaz. The Peruvian international finished at the near post for the game's only goal.
The Dynamo went down to 10 players for the second consecutive game when Adalberto "Coco" Carrasquilla received his second yellow card of the night in the 53rd minute for impeding Nicolas Lodeiro on a breakaway run near midfield.
Despite playing down a man for the final 40 minutes minutes, the Dynamo outshot the Sounders 14-9 on the night, including a 6-3 edge in the second half. Houston also had more touches in the opponent's penalty area (22-19) and entries into the attacking third (44-35) on the night.
Houston's first opportunity of the game came in the sixth minute when forward Darwin Quintero found forward Fafa Picault in space at the edge of the box. Picault's curling effort went wide of the far post. Picault led the team in shots attempted, with three.
Quintero tested his luck at the top of the box in the 14th minute, but his effort went just over the crossbar. Quintero and Dynamo forward Sebas Ferreira combined for a one-two inside the box 10 minutes later, but his effort was handled by Seattle goalkeeper Stefan Frei inside the box.
Midfielder Memo Rodriguez just missed the inside of the far post with a long-range effort nearly 30 yards away from goal.
Forward Beto Avila came on in the 62nd and forced a save six minutes later after winning the ball outside the box. This was the second regular season appearance for the Dynamo Academy alum after he signed with the first team from Houston Dynamo 2 on May 6.
Seattle also lost a man when Alex Roldan fouled Houston's Avila in the 82nd minute to pick up his second yellow card of the game.
The Dynamo close the week in California when they travel to Dignity Health Sports Park on Sunday, May 22 to face the LA Galaxy at 7 p.m. CT. The match will air live on in English on AT&T SportsNet and in Spanish on TeleXitos 47.2.
The Dynamo return to PNC Stadium on Saturday, June 11 to host LigaMX side Atletico San Luis in the Dynamo Charities Cup presented by PNC Bank.
