
Byron Buxton joins Kernels on MLB rehab assignment

Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Minnesota Twins announce that OF Byron Buxton has joined the Kernels on an MLB rehab assignment. Brian Maloney, Senior Manager of Minor League Operations, announced the move.
Buxton played for the Kernels during the 2013 season, batting .341 with 8 HR and 55 RBI in 68 games. He was named the MWL Prospect and Player of the Year for 2013 and led all of MiLB that season with 18 triples. He was selected by the Twins in the first round (second overall) of the 2012 First Year Player Draft out of Appling County HS in Baxley, GA.
Buxton has played in 82 games with the Twins this season, batting .262 with 10 HR and 46 RBI. He was placed on the 10-day injured list on August 3rd with a left shoulder subluxation.
Buxton is active and available for today's 2:05 PM game with Peoria. With today's transaction, the Kernels roster remains at the MWL maximum of 25 active players, with six players currently on the injured list and one player on an MLB rehab assignment.
The Kernels are in the midst of the final seven-game homestand of the 2019 regular season that continues this afternoon at 2:05 PM vs. Peoria with the gates opening at 1:00 PM. The current homestand continues through Friday, August 30th.
