BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - The Bridgeport Sound Tigers saw their winless streak reach six games on Saturday night as they were defeated by the Hartford Wolf Pack, 3-1 at Webster Bank Arena.
David Leggio made 28 saves, including a few of the spectacular variety, but it ended up not being enough. Ryan Malone picked up two assists and the Wolf Pack capitalized twice on the power play.
The Wolf Pack struck first in the game as with 4:02 remaining in the first period and Kevin Czuczman in the box, Ryan Haggerty scored on the man advantage to put the Sound Tigers behind 1-0.
The Sound Tigers didn't waste any time answering the Hartford goal as their power play also came to play late in the first period.
With Dylan McIlrath sent off for cross checking, Mike Halmo skated out on front and put it past Wolf Pack goalie Cedrick Desjardins for his fifth goal of the season to tie the game at 1-1 with 2:48 remaining.
The score would be tied after one period of play and for most of the second as the teams would go back and forth until the Wolf Pack power play came alive again.
With just under three minutes remaining in the 2 nd period and C.J. Stretch in the sin bin for high sticking, Ryan Bourque roofed his fourth of the season past David Leggio from right out in front of the net to make it 2-1 in favor of Hartford.
The score remained 2-1 Wolf Pack after two periods and with a little under six minutes gone by in the 3 rd period, Hartford would extend their lead.
Joey Crabb ripped a slap shot from the right circle past Leggio off a Bridgeport turnover and put the Wolf Pack up 3-1.
Cedrick Desjardins made 21 saves for the Wolf Pack as he got his fifth win of the season and his first win since November 5 th against Albany.
The Sound Tigers are back in action tomorrow at Webster Bank Arena as they welcome in the Providence Bruins for the first time this season for another Eastern Conference battle at 3 p.m.
Notes: Halmo has scored three goals against Hartford this season...C.J. Stretch has notched an assist now in back-to-back games this weekend...The Sound Tigers have allowed an average of just over 40 shots in the past two games.
