November 29, 2014 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Binghamton Senators News Release
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators held a 3-0 lead heading into the final frame of regulation for a 4-3 win over the visiting Rochester Americans. Four different skaters scored for the B-Sens while Scott Greenham stopped 31 of 34 shots faced for his third win of the year.
Shane Prince, who came in on a six-game point streak, beat the Amerks Nathan Lieuwen top-shelf with less than two minutes remaining in the first on a power-play goal to give Binghamton the 1-0 lead heading into the break.
Matt Puempel doubled the B-Sens lead 1:34 into the second off a nice feed from Danny New. New skated the puck into the Amerks zone and sent a cross-ice feed to a streaking Puempel who one-timed the puck past Lieuwen for his fifth goal of the year. David Dziurzynski notched his second marker of the year when he pounced on a loose puck in front of Lieuwen and lifted it over the sprawling goaltender with less than five minutes to play in the period. Binghamton outshot the Americans 18-9 in the second.
Rochester scored twice within the opening 14 minutes of the third to shrink Binghamton's lead to 3-2. Drew Bagnall started the charge when he blasted a puck past Greenham from the left faceoff circle 3:40 into the frame. With just over six minutes to go, Mikhail Grigorenko stepped into a shot in front of Greenham that caught the crossbar and ended up in the back of the net for his seventh of the year. With Rochester's defense pinching hard looking to force another turnover, Cole Schneider initiated a 2-on-1 break up the ice. Jean-Gabriel Pageau carried the puck in and fired a shot over Lieuwen's glove to push the B-Sens lead to 4-2. Jordan Samuels-Thomas pushed a loose puck under Greenham just over a minute later, but Binghamton held out the remainder of regulation for the 4-3 victory.
Grigorenko finished with a goal and an assist for Rochester while 10 different B-Sens players found the score sheet.
The B-Sens travel to Rochester next Friday, December 5, for a 7:05p.m. rematch with the Americans. Binghamton returns home Saturday when they host the Adirondack Flames at 7:05p.m. Tickets for Saturday are available by calling the Binghamton Senators Executive Office at (607) 722-7367 or stopping in Monday-Friday between 9:00a.m. to 5:30p.m. Fans can also purchase tickets through the Floyd L.
