
Blue Jackets Recall Michael Chaput, Kerby Rychel; Assign Wennberg to Falcons

Springfield, Mass. - The Columbus Blue Jackets have recalled center Michael Chaput and left wing Kerby Rychel from the Springfield Falcons, Blue Jackets General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today. The club has also assigned center Alexander Wennberg to the Falcons.
Chaput, 22, recorded two assists and eight penalty minutes in 18 games with the Blue Jackets this season and has added five points (1g, 4a) in five games with Springfield. The Ile Bizard, Quebec native has accumulated three points (3a) and 10 penalty minutes in 35 career NHL games.
Acquired by the Blue Jackets in a trade with the Philadelphia Flyers on Feb. 28, 2012, Chaput has registered 82 points (33g, 49a) and 108 penalty minutes in 133 career AHL games with Springfield.
Rychel, 20, has collected 13 points (6g, 7a) and 30 penalty minutes in 22 games with Springfield in his first professional campaign. The Torrance, California native split the 2013-14 season between the Guelph Storm and Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey League, posting 90 points (34g, 56a) and 43 penalty minutes and scoring the title-clinching goal in Game 5 of the OHL Finals to help Guelph win the J. Ross Robertson Cup.
The Blue Jacket's second first round pick, 19th overall, in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, Rychel tallied 272 points (122g, 150a) and 264 penalty minutes in 256 career OHL games. He represented Canada at the 2014 World Junior Championships and helped the Canadians win a bronze medal at the 2012 World U18 Championships.
Wennberg, 20, recorded his first NHL point, an assist, in his NHL debut on Oct. 9 at Buffalo, and has notched three assists with eight penalty minutes in 21 games with the Blue Jackets this season. He earned 21 points (16g, 5a) and eight penalty minutes in 50 games with Frolunda of the Swedish Hockey League in 2013-14. The Stockholm, Sweden native was the Blue Jacket's first pick, 14th overall, in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.
