Augusta GreenJackets News Release

Augusta, GA - Taylor Rogers proved why he was selected to represent the Southern Division in the upcoming South Atlantic League All-Star Game, firing seven strong innings and leading the Augusta GreenJackets to a 4-1 win over the Charleston RiverDogs. With the win, the GreenJackets earn the three-game sweep of the ‘Dogs - Augusta's first series sweep of the year.

With the game tied at one in the sixth inning, Charleston reliever Tommy Kahnle (1-2) got the first two outs of the inning in quick fashion before running into trouble. He allowed a double to Joel Weeks and loaded the bases with back-to-back walks after that. Carlos Willoughby drew a bases-loaded walk to force the go-ahead run across the plate, but with ball four coming in the form of a wild pitch, Raynor Campbell raced all the way from second to give the GreenJackets a 3-1 lead as Augusta scored twice on the same play. A third wild pitch in the inning brought Chris Lofton home to give Augusta a three-run edge.

Rogers (5-6) was marvelous in his seven innings, allowing just a run on five hits without allowing a walk. The All-Star struck out three while earning his fourth win in his last five starts.

For the third straight night, the RiverDogs took the early lead and for the third straight night it happened within the first two innings. In the second, Kelvin DeLeon's RBI single - the second Charleston hit of the inning - brought home a run to give the ‘Dogs a 1-0 advantage. After Rogers loaded the bases in the third, he got Ramon Flores to fly out to end the inning to start a string of 12 straight RiverDogs retired by the right-hander. Rogers finished his seven innings by retiring 13 of the final 14 hitters he faced.

Augusta tied the game in the fifth with the only run they scored in the entire series against a Charleston starting pitcher. Lofton walked to lead off the frame and moved to third on Ehire Adrianza's one-out single. Adam Duvall's sacrifice fly tied the game at one.

Charleston starter Mikey O'Brien continued the RiverDogs run of good starting pitching in the series, firing five innings of one-run ball on three hits while striking out four. He did tie a season-high with four walks out of eight total free passes issued by Charleston hurlers.

Stephen Harrold allowed a leadoff double in the ninth, but retired the next three hitters to earn his second save of the series and his ninth of the season.

The GreenJackets have Wednesday off before opening a three-game series in Savannah on Thursday against the Sand Gnats - Augusta's first trip to Historic Grayson Stadium. Mike Kickham (1-3, 5.11) gets the ball in the opener for the GreenJackets and will face fellow lefty Chase Huchingson (3-2, 2.14). First pitch from Savannah will come at 7:05 with pregame coverage beginning at 6:50, airing on WRDW-AM 1630 and online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com.
