
Kannapolis Intimidators Starter Burnside Named SAL Pitcher of the Week

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (June 7, 2011) - Starting pitcher Paul Burnside of the Kannapolis Intimidators, Class A Affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, has been named South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week for May 30 through June 5, 2011. Burnside went 2-0 with a 1.26 ERA in two starts, including the first complete-game shutout in the league this season.
The former Auburn University product has struck out 19 batters while walking only one in 14 1/3 innings pitched over the last week. He allowed two runs on nine hits in that time. Over the last two weeks, Burnside has led all of Minor League Baseball with 31 strikeouts, spanning three starts and 20 1/3 innings.
Burnside, 24, is 5-2 with a 3.36 ERA in 12 games (seven starts) this season with opponents batting .219 against him. Last year with the Great Falls Voyagers, Burnside went 7-3 with a 4.14 ERA, tying for the Pioneer League lead in wins and ranking third with 77 strikeouts and eighth in ERA. The White Sox drafted Burnside in the 39th round of the 2009 draft.
This is the second weekly award for an Intimidators pitcher this season. Starter Jake Petricka was named SAL Pitcher of the Week for April 7-17.
