June 7, 2011 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Hickory Crawdads News Release
HICKORY, NC - The Hickory Crawdads completed the three-game sweep of the Lakewood BlueClaws with a 10-3 victory on Tuesday afternoon, before 4,004 fans at L.P. Frans Stadium.
The Crawdads (32-26) jumped in front of the BlueClaws early, plating five runs in the bottom of the second inning. 3B Christian Villanueva and 1B Andrew Clark led off with back-to-back singles, before CF Jake Skole worked a walk to load the bases one out later. C Kellin Deglan brought in Villanueva with a grounder to third, which was misplayed for an error enabling everyone to be safe and the bases to remain loaded. LF Jonathan Roof quickly unloaded the bases with a two-run double to right field, moving Deglan to third. SS Jurickson Profar plated Deglan with a ground out and 2B Odubel Herrera brought in Roof with a single, capping the five-run rally for the 5-0 lead.
Hickory kept swinging away with three more runs against RHP David Buchanan (L, 7-3) in the third. DH Tomas Telis started the inning with a double and advanced to third on a groundout, before quickly charging home on a wild pitch. One out later, Clark worked a walk to get on board, and trotted home when Skole belted a two-out, two-run homer to make it 8-0.
The offensive onslaught continued in the fourth inning against RHP Chase Johnson. Profar led off with a base hit and raced all the way home on an RBI double by Herrera. After a ground out pushed Herrera to third, Villanueva knocked him home with an RBI single, stretching the Hickory lead to 10-0.
While the 'Dads bats were red hot, RHP Nick Tepesch (W, 2-3)was dominant on the mound. Tepesch started the game with three no-hit innings, and ended up tossing seven shutout frames, scattering only three singles, walking one and striking out 10 batters.
Lakewood (28-30) attempted to claw back late in the game against RHP Ben Henry. The BlueClaws got on the board with a two-run homer by C Cameron Rupp in the eighth inning, and inched closer with an RBI sacrifice fly by 2B Carlos Perdomo in the ninth. However, Henry worked out of the rest of the ninth with no further damage done, closing the 10-3 win for the Crawdads.
