RiverDogs Finish First-Half Home Slate with 7-Game Homestand

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Memorial Day has come and gone and the Fourth of July is still a month away, but the Charleston RiverDogs are keeping the Lowcountry cool with entertainment. Charleston's favorite professional sports team returns to Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park on Thursday, June 9, at 7:05 p.m., to take on the Asheville Tourists.

The seven game homestand continues through Wednesday, June 15, as the 27-time World Champion New York Yankees' affiliate welcomes Asheville and the rival Greenville Drive to The Joe.

Another Budweiser Thirsty Thursday jumpstarts the schedule on June 9 as fans can enjoy $1 beers in the Ashley View Pub while listening and moving to the stylings of DJ Natty Heavy. The inaugural Salute to Bacon Night is introduced, as the RiverDogs step outside the box to allow everyone to "Be Your Own Fan" while paying tribute to the All-American breakfast staple.

Diehard RiverDogs fans and local history buffs will be in their glory on Saturday, June 11. The first 1,000 fans through the gates receive the 2011 RiverDogs team photo, and all patrons will be able to learn about a piece of Charleston's past as the 1955 Cannon Street YMCA Little League World Series team is honored.

An important piece of America's pastime takes center stage on Sunday, June 12, as Larry Doby Heritage Weekend continues with a special Salute to the Negro Leagues Night. Former Negro Leaguers will be on hand to sign autographs and sell merchandise, and the ball clubs themselves will turn back the clock by donning the uniforms of the Homestand Grays and the Newark Eagles.

School is out for the summer, and area kids are sure to be excited to see Dora the Explorer venture to the banks of the Ashley River on Monday, June 13. The popular television star will meet and greet fans as they enter the stadium, and then keep a smile on the face of all throughout the night.

Thursday, June 9 - 7:05 pm vs. Asheville Tourists: Budweiser Thirsty Thursday, Salute to Bacon Night

Who doesn't love bacon' The RiverDogs do, and the club will go all-out to relate pregame and in-game promotions to bacon, whether it is the meat itself or Kevin Bacon. It's also another Budweiser Thirsty Thursday. With $1 beers in the Ashley View Pub and fresh music courtesy of the stylings of DJ Natty Heavy, everything one needs to get the extended weekend off to a rollicking start is at The Joe.

Friday, June 10 - 7:05 pm vs. Asheville Tourists: Force Protection Industries, Inc. Red Shirt Friday, Piggly Wiggly Postgame Fireworks, Ed Randall's Bat for the Cure Prostate Cancer Awareness

Nationally syndicated baseball talk show host Ed Randall's Major and Minor League Baseball-wide Bat for the Cure organizations has raised funds and awareness for the fight against prostate cancer and the RiverDogs are proud to share in the initiative. Representatives from the foundation will be on hand, and both teams will wear blue wrist bands to call attention to the prevalent disease. On Force Protection Industries, Inc. Red Shirt Friday , all patrons wearing a red shirt to the game will blend in with the players on the field and receive a $1 off their ticket. If you're feeling charitable - like many of our fans - one may donate that dollar to a military family with parents fighting overseas. Piggly Wiggly Postgame Fireworks illuminate the night sky as always, making sure everyone goes home a winner.

Saturday, June 11 - 7:05 pm vs. Asheville Tourists: Lowcountry Local First Go Local Saturday, RiverDogs Team Photo Giveaway, 1955 Cannon Street YMCA Recognition, Kids Run the Bases

The first 1,000 fans through the gates will receive the latest weekly giveaway, a RiverDogs Team Photo featuring first-year manager Aaron Ledesma and the Yankees of tomorrow. The legendary 1955 Canon Street YMCA team that reached the Little League World Series will be recognized in a special pregame ceremony to help usher in Larry Doby Heritage Weekend. As is the case every Saturday, Tricounty residents will also be able to save a dollar on their admission ticket and find out about some of the best local businesses in the Holy City and beyond thanks to Lowcountry Local First. After the game, children can take to the diamond for Kids Run the Bases.

Sunday, June 12 - 5:05 pm vs. Greenville Drive: Charleston County Parks and Recreation Commission Family Sunday, FREE Parking, Kids Eat FREE, Salute to Negro Leagues Night, Postgame Autographs

Sunday is a day to wind down before the start of another grinding work week, and there's no better place to do that than at The Joe. As a continuation of Larry Doby Heritage Weekend, three former Negro League stars will be on hand for a pregame ceremony. During the game, both teams will wear the uniforms of the Newark Eagles and Homestand Grays, and the former players will be on the concourse selling memorabilia and chatting with fans about their trailblazing experience. It's also another CCPRC Family Sunday, meaning one can save money by taking advantage of our regular FREE PARKING and KIDS EAT FREE Sundays, presented by Pepsi. As always, the Yankees of tomorrow will stick around on the field after the game to dole out free autographs to their admirers.

Monday, June 13 - 7:05 pm vs. Greenville Drive: Hair of the Dog Monday, presented by 98Rock, Dogs With A Cause featuring Camp Happy Day, Meet Dora the Explorer

The hugely popular Dora the Explorer navigates her way to The Joe for an evening of baseball and family-oriented fun. Dora will be on hand to visit with fans and take pictures throughout the evening in special designated area in Doby's Deck. As is the case every Monday, the RiverDogs partner with a local nonprofit organization to generate exposure and funds for a specific cause, presented by The Bridge at 105.5 FM. This week's featured ally is Camp Happy Day, a summer camp for children who keep a brave, smiling face while battling cancer. Spectators can also enjoy $1 beers in the Ashley View Pub as one extends the weekend with Hair of the Dog Mondays, presented by 98Rock.

Tuesday, June 14 - 7:05 pm vs. Greenville Drive: KRAFT Singles Tuesday Night Tickets, Local Yokel Trade Show

Get out of that middle of the work-week funk by heading to The Joe to watch the RiverDogs take on the rival Boston Red Sox affiliate. The future of the Yankees-Red Sox rivalry will be on display both literally and figuratively as the RiverDogs and Drive wear the classic uniforms of their parent clubs. Let the RiverDogs' "Build Your Own Hot Dog" theme satisfy your palate. For $20, one can eat to his/her hearts - or stomachs - content in the comfort of the Ashley View Pub. All-you-can-eat hot dogs will be accompanied by 8-10 toppings, potato salad, baked beans, chips and all-you-can-drink (beer included).
