Boise, ID - Mark Bomersback tallied his first professional hat trick and Kellen Briggs stopped 25 shots to power the Steelheads to a 4-1 defeat of the RoadRunners on Saturday night from Qwest Arena, as they completed the three-game home sweep of their division foe.

A crowd of 4,129 fans watched the tilt, which saw the Steelheads move into third place in the West Division (10-8-7), as they won their third straight game, a season high. Meanwhile, the RoadRunners (8-12-5) are just 2-5-4 on the road this season and they sit in last place in the West Division.

There was no scoring in the first period as the Steelheads out-shot the RoadRunners 12-11.

Late in the second period, Bomersback picked up his first of two goals in a span of 3:07, converting off Greg Rallo's shot that sailed wide of the cage and backhanding the puck past RoadRunners' goaltender Cody Rudkowsky (25 saves) to give the Steelheads a 1-0 lead. Colin Sinclair picked up the second assist.

With less than a minute to go in the second period, Bomersback stripped the puck from a RoadRunners' defenseman and flew into the offensive zone before deking Rudkowsky and sliding the puck five-hole for his 14th tally this season. Once again, Sinclair recorded an assist.

Through two periods, the Steelheads led in shots 24-18 and the held a 2-0 lead on the scoreboard.

At the 6:54 mark of the third period the Steelheads potted their first power play goal of the series, as Darrell Hay's point shot was tipped home by Bomersback to complete the hat trick. Kory Scoran added the second assist on Bomersback's team-leading 15th goal.

Matt Craig put the Steelheads in front 4-0 at 17:05 of the stanza with a great individual effort. Gathering the puck out at center ice, Craig worked his way into the offensive zone and then muscled a shot past Rudkowsky for his third marker of the year. Taggart Desmet and Hay grabbed the helpers.

Then in the game's final minute the RoadRunners avoided the shutout when Ryan Walsh's shot hit the crossbar and bounced free to Jeff Kyrzakos who beat a sprawled out Briggs for his 11th of the campaign. Daniel Sisca picked up the second assist.

The Steelheads out-shot the RoadRunners 29-26 while killing off all six of the RoadRunners' power play opportunities. With the win, Briggs is now 5-3-1 with four of those wins coming in his last five starts. The loss drops Rudkowsky to 4-9-3.
