December 15, 2007 - ECHL (ECHL)
Bakersfield Condors News Release
STOCKTON, Calif. - Yutaka Fukufuji stopped 27 shots and Steven Later had a goal and an assist to lead the Bakersfield Condors to a 5-3 victory over the Stockton Thunder in front of 6,175 fans at Stockton Arena Friday night. The Condors return home to host the Victoria Salmon Kings Saturday night.
The Thunder (10-13-2, 22 points) got on the board first with a power play goal from rookie Ryan O'Marra, his 10th of the season at 9:22. But in less than four minutes of play, the Condors (6-14-5, 17 points) responded with a pair of tallies. Steven Later, playing in his first game since coming off the 30-day IR, notched his third of the campaign at 11:41 to knot the game at 1-1. At 13:09 Tim Konsorada slipped in a rebound for his team-leading 13th of the season, and the Condors held a 2-1 advantage through 20 minutes.
Both clubs got on the board in the second, with O'Marra potting his second of the game just 1:30 into the frame to tie it up for Stockton. At 8:13, however, Joe Dustin's drive from the top of the slot found the back of the net to regain the advantage for Bakersfield. Later picked up an assist for his second point of the game.
The majority of the third period was played in the Condors end, but Bakersfield extended their lead with a drive by Andrew Ianiero at 12:07. It proved important, as the Thunder narrowed the gap with a tally at 15:43 by former Condors D L.P. Lachance. Stockton pulled their netminder in the final minute, but the Condors sealed the deal with the first goal of the season by Evan Kotsopoulos at 19:37.
Notes: D Steven Later was activated from the 30-day IR today, and played in his first game since November 11th. He has scored a goal in each of the last two games he has played. F Todd Griffith extended his point streak to eight games with an assist on the game-winner by Ianiero. Bakersfield snapped a six game (0-4-1-1) winless skid overall, and a four game (0-3-1-0) road losing streak with the win.
The Condors host the Salmon Kings Saturday night at Rabobank Arena. Game time is 7pm and doors open at 6pm. The Condors will retire Jamie Cooke's number 28 tomorrow night. Cooke is the all- time leading goal scorer in Condors history and ranks second in points and assists as well.
