Trenton Devils News Release

ELMIRA, NY - Trevor Kell picked up the first hat trick of the season for the Devils, tying the game three times in the process, but the Devils would lose a tough one to the Jackals in First Arena, 4-3.

Kell's hat trick began in the first period, when the rookie forward raced into the Elmira zone on a three-on-two. Handing the puck off to Tony Zancanaro in the slot, Kell set up by the bottom dot. When Matt Rogers' one-timer off of Zancanaro's feed bounced off Joel Martin's pads, Kell was in perfect position to knock the puck back in, 6:17 into the first.

The goal tied the game after Elmira's Brett Pilkington gave the Jackals an early lead 51 seconds into the contest.

After a goal by Kevin Ulanski opened the second period, Kell would respond again 5:35 into the frame. This time on the power play, the Sarnia Sting alum found a loose puck to the nearside of the crease. Wasting no time in getting a shot off, Kell pushed the puck through a very narrow opening in Martin's five-hole, squeezing the blast through for the second equalizing tally.

Kell's hat trick, of the natural variety, would be accomplished after Elmira took a 3-2 lead off of Frank Littlejohn's tenth goal of the season. With the Devils applying pressure deep in the Jackals' zone, the puck ricocheted to Kell in the middle of the slot. The Thunder Bay, Ontario native beat Martin to the top right corner of the net, and then celebrated with his teammates.

The last time a Devil netted a hat trick on the road was on March 31, 2006, when Scott Bertoli gained three goals against Toledo.

The Jackals would take the game early into the third period, when Bruce Watson scored his second goal of the season on a rebound off of Trenton netminder Jason Smith's pads. The Devils would fight to the end, recording several quality chances in the remainder of the third, but ultimately could not pull out a second straight overtime appearance in Elmira.

Jason Smith took the loss, making 23 saves on 27 shots. Martin moves to 4-0-0 against the Devils this season; recording 19 saves on 22 chances.

The Trenton Devils quickly return home to Sovereign Bank Arena to face the Reading Royals for the second time this week. The puck drops Sunday, December 16th at 4:00pm. Tune into WBCB 1490 or go online to www.trentondevils.com and listen or watch live courtesy of B2 Networks.
