Kings get 3-2 win in Bakersfield

The Salmon Kings continued their three games in three night road trip versus the Bakersfield Condors Saturday evening. The Kings were coming off two consecutive defeats on the road and were looking to get back in the win column when playing away from the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre.

The Kings came out flying to start the game and just 3:18 in Jordan Krestanovich was deposited the puck past Condors' goalie Yutaka Fukufuki after a beautiful tic-tac-toe passing play from Ash Goldie and Kevin Estrada. The Kings' made it 2-0 on the power play when Gary Gladue counted his first goal of the season firing a point shot past a screened Fukufuji. Bakersfield responded with six minutes remaining in the period, Tim Konsorada jumped on a puck sitting in the slot a fired a top corner blocker side goal past Kings' keeper Billy Thompson. The period would end with the Kings leading 2-1.

The Salmon Kings continued to apply the pressure in the second period and were rewarded when Kiel McLeod sent Marc-Andre Bernier in all alone and he snapped a shot past Fukufuji. Bakersfield did respond when Andrew Ianiero put a shot past Thompson after receiving a beautiful pass from Jesse Bennefield on a two on one. The Kings led 3-2 after two periods.

There were chances both ways in the third period, but neither team was able to light the goal lamp. The Salmon Kings were able to skate away with a hard fought 3-2 victory.

Victoria went 1-6 16.7% and Fresno was 0-6 0% on the power play. Victoria outshot Bakersfield 37-30.

The Salmon Kings conclude their three games in three night tour of California tour tomorrow afternoon in Fresno for a 3 p.m. game. Victoria returns to the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre on December 19th to take on last year's playoff opponent the Alaska Aces. Call 220-7889 for tickets.
