Blazers Acquire Smejkal from Warriors

Kamloops, BC - The Kamloops Blazers have acquired 19-year-old import forward Jiri Smejkal from the Moose Jaw Warriors in exchange for 19-year-old import defenseman Patrik Maier and a 5th round pick in the 2017 WHL Bantam Draft.

Smejkal, who is listed at 6'4" and 210lbs, is in his second WHL season. During the 2014-15 season, the left shot forward had 12 goals and 32 points in 72 games.

In 28 games this season, Smejkal who is from Ceske Budejovice, Czech Republic, has four goals and 18 points.

Smejkal recently suited up for the Czech Republic at the U-20 World Junior Championships. In five games, he had two goals and four points.

"We are excited to add Jiri to our roster," commented General Manager, Stu MacGregor. "He is a big and versatile forward that can play center or on the left wing. He adds size and experience to our forward group."

Smejkal is expected to join the Blazers this week for their trip through Alberta.
