
Raiders Swing Deal with Hitmen

Prince Albert, SK - The Prince Albert Raiders announced Sunday that the club has acquired forward Layne Bensmiller and defenceman Loch Morrison from the Calgary Hitmen in exchange for forward Matteo Gennaro and prospect Ty Prefontaine, along with a sixth round pick in the 2016 WHL Bantam Draft.
A native of Rocky Mountain House, AB, Bensmiller is in his second season in the league and has compiled eight goals and 16 assists for 24 points in 44 games with Calgary. Bensmiller has dressed in 82 WHL games in his career, registering 14 goals and 21 assists for 35 points.
Morrison joins the Raiders in the midst of his second year in the WHL. In 40 games with the Hitmen, the Prince Albert, SK native has collected two goals and nine assists for 11 points. In 98 career games in the league, Morrison has six goals and 15 assists for 21 points.
The local blue liner was selected by the Hitmen in the seventh round, 149th overall, in the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft. Morrison was a member of the 2014 Prince Albert Mintos who won the Telus Cup as National Midget AAA champions. He is also the son of former Raider Ken Morrison.
Going to the Hitmen is 1997-born forward Gennaro. The St. Albert, AB product played in 42 games with the Raiders this season, scoring 12 goals while adding 12 assists for 24 points. Gennaro had spent all three seasons of his WHL career with Prince Albert and recorded 33 goals and 37 assists for 70 points in 174 contests.
The Hitmen also acquire 1999-born defenceman Prefontaine. The Saskatoon, SK native played three games with the Raiders this season during a short December call-up.
The Raiders begin a three-game Central Division road trip on Wednesday, January 13 as they take on the Edmonton Oil Kings. The team returns to Prince Albert on Friday, January 22 when they host the Brandon Wheat Kings at the Art Hauser Centre. Puck drop is 7:00 PM.
