Regina Pats News Release

Spokane, Washington - The Regina Pats (18-18-3-3) began the U.S. Division portion of their road swing against the Spokane Chiefs (19-16-3-2). Adam Brooks, Connor Hobbs and Sam Steel each had three points as the Pats cruised to a 7-2 victory.

A back and forth start to the first period saw both offenses frustrated as Jordan Hollett and Tyson Verhelst came up with some big stops early. After Hollett foiled a pair of Chiefs chances on a powerplay midway through the period, the Pats' penalty kill started the scoring. Breaking up the ice, Adam Brooks put a perfect pass in front of Austin Wagner who tipped the puck past Verhelst. Just ahead of the 13 minute mark, Connor Hobbs took the puck at the point and bombed a shot to the top corner of the Chiefs goal for a powerplay goal. 17 seconds later, Jared Freadrich's seeing-eye point shot found its way through a maze of legs, including Verhelst's, to give the Pats a 3-0 lead. The hosts got one back as Hudson Elynuik cashed in on a powerplay goal at 16:18. The Pats got it back when Brooks stole the puck from Verhelst and centered as the Chiefs netminder was heading back to his net. The puck ricocheted off the goaltender's skates before it got to Lane Zablocki, but skittered into the net to give Regina a 4-1 lead after twenty minutes.

The Chiefs pulled a swap with Lasse Petersen starting the second period in place of Verhelst. A feisty start to the period saw Aaron Macklin and Evan Fiala get better acquainted with the pair earning roughing minors just 48 seconds into the frame. The Pats added to their lead 3:54 into the period when Lane Zablocki grabbed his own rebound and slid it across to Sam Steel who tapped the puck into the back of the net for a 5-1 lead. Jordan Hollett wasn't nearly as busy in the second, only facing six shots and turning them all aside to keep the lead at 5-1 after two periods.

The Chiefs made things interesting scoring four minutes into the third. Ethan McIndoe grabbed an Evan Fiala rebound and tucked it around Hollett. The home side had an opportunity to cut the lead to two with a powerplay following the goal, but the Pats penalty kill came up with the stop. A parade to the box ensued and with the Pats on a four-on-three powerplay, Steel capitalized by picking the top corner for his second goal of the night and a 6-2 lead at 7:49. Wagner closed out the scoring with his second of the night. The speedster snuck in behind the defence on a bank pass and put the moves on before sliding the puck to the back of the net to round out a 7-2 victory.

Quick Hits - Adam Brooks registered a point in his 13th straight game. The longest point streak in the WHL this season. - Brooks also set a new career mark for points in a season with his 64th point of the season. - Game attendance was 6,201.
