Buffalo Bisons News Release
ROCHESTER, NY - After being rained out the previous night, the Buffalo Bisons and Rochester Red Wings played the second of six games from Frontier Field, where the Red Wings defeated the Herd 6-1 on Thursday night.
The Bisons got on the board first when Nathan Lukes went deep for his second homer of the year in the third, but the Red Wings would tie it up in the fourth when Joey Meneses homered off Nate Pearson, who made his season debut with the Herd as he works his way back from a bout with mono.
The big righty went two innings and struck out two batters, with the Meneses homer being the lone hit he allowed. Pearson sat in the mid-to-high 90s with his fastball and threw plenty of sharp curveballs while mixing in a slider as well.
Pearson followed Graham Spraker who started and went two shutout innings in what was a bullpen day for the Herd. The game was tied after Pearson exited after the fourth, but the Red Wings jumped all over Bowden Francis in the fifth, tagging him for five runs over 1.1 innings led by homers by Ehire Adrianza and Tres Barrera.
Red Wings starter Jackson Tetrault was very effective on the other end, going six innings and giving up just the one run off of five Bison hits. Jordan Groshans was responsible for two of those hits, while Logan Warmoth singled and walked after coming into the game defensively for Vinny Capra in the bottom of the first.
Brandon Eisert and Kyle Johnston kept the deficit to five, but the trio of Sam Clay, Tyler Clippard, and Reed Garrett kept the Bisons' bats at bay.
The Bisons and Red Wings will continue their series tomorrow night with Max Castillo back on the hill for the Herd. His opponent will be 2019 World Series MVP Stephen Strasburg, who is pitching in this third rehab start as he continues to make his way back from thoracic outlet syndrome surgery he underwent last July. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. EST.
