JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Former Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp right-handed pitcher Jason Alexander tossed 7.0 strong innings on Wednesday in his major league debut for the Milwaukee Brewers at Wrigley Field in Chicago. Alexander follows fellow right-hander Chad Smith (May 29, Colorado Rockies) as the second Jacksonville alumnus in four days to make his MLB debut.

Alexander started Milwaukee's game at the Chicago Cubs from Wrigley Field, yielding three runs, two earned, on seven hits in 7.0 innings. He struck out three while walking three in the Brewers' 4-3 defeat.

A native of Windsor, Calif., Alexander pitched for the Jumbo Shrimp in 2021, registering a 1-1 record and 1.84 ERA in five games, including four starts. He fanned 18 against only three walks in 14.2 innings.

After becoming a free agent following the 2021 season, Alexander signed with Milwaukee and was assigned to Triple-A Nashville to begin the season. With the Sounds, he went 6-2 with a 2.64 ERA in nine games, including seven starts. He returned to pitch against Jacksonville on May 14 at 121 Financial Ballpark, earning the win in a 6.0-inning performance against the Jumbo Shrimp.

Undrafted out of Menlo College (Atherton, Calif.), Alexander signed a minor league deal on June 17, 2017 with the Los Angeles Angels. He pitched with the Rookie-level AZL Angels and Orem, as well as High-A Inland Empire in 2017, recording a 3.50 ERA in 43.2 innings. He spent the 2018 campaign with Inland Empire, Double-A Mobile and Triple-A Salt Lake, pitching to a 4.41 ERA in 116.1 innings before compiling a 6.66 ERA with Mobile and Salt Lake in 2019.

Alexander was released by the Angels in June 2020 before signing with the Marlins prior to the 2021 campaign, when he pitched for Jacksonville.

In addition to both Alexander and Smith, former Jumbo Shrimp Joe Dunand (May 7, Miami Marlins) has also made his MLB debut so far during the 2022 season. Alexander is the 938th player to don both a Jacksonville uniform and play in the major leagues. The history of Minor League Baseball in Jacksonville dates back to 1904.
