Burlington Bees News Release
Burlington, IA (June 3, 2008) - The Burlington Bees' hot hitting continued Tuesday night as they defeated Clinton 9-4 at Community Field. Mike Moustakas and Jamar Walton each hit homeruns as Sam Runion picked up his first win of the season.
Despite scoring 13 combined runs, the game looked for awhile like it was going to be a pitching duel. The first runs of the game came in the bottom of the fourth inning when the Bees scored two runs. Both Walton and Zach Evangelho had an RBI in the inning to give the Bees a 2-0 lead. The Bees added three more runs in the fifth. After Adrian Ortiz and David Lough reached to lead the inning off, Moustakas hit his eighth homerun of the season to give the Bees a 5-0 lead.
Clinton got the three runs back in the sixth inning to get back within two runs but the Bees' bats were not finished. In the bottom of the sixth inning, Evangelho and Todd Balduf each reached base and both scored on a David Lough single. The LumberKings scored a run in the top of the seventh but the Bees were able to answer back once again in the bottom of the inning. With Clint Robinson on base, Walton hit a homerun to right field, which finished out the scoring for the Bees.
Runion picked up his first win of the season pitching six innings allowing three runs on six hits. Zach Peterson pitched three innings allowing one run as he was awarded his second save of the season. Lough had three hits while Evangelho and Moustakas each had two hits.
The Bees and LumberKings wrap up the series Wednesday evening at Community Field. Danny Duffy is the scheduled starter for the Bees. First pitch is set for 6:30. The game can be heard on 1490 KBUR and also online at GoBees.com
