
Five Dragons Selected to Play in All-Star Game

Dayton, Ohio-The Dayton Dragons announced today that five members of the club have been selected to play in the 2008 Midwest League All-Star Game in Midland, Michigan on June 17th.
Dragons third baseman Brandon Waring will start the game at third base for the Eastern Division All-Stars. Outfielder Denis Phipps and pitchers Luis Montano, Joseph Krebs, and Jeff Jeffords were also named to the team.
Waring (WARE-ing) is second in the league in home runs with 11. He is batting .267 with a team-leading 32 runs batted in. Waring is fifth in the league in slugging percentage. Waring was a seventh round draft pick by the Cincinnati Reds in 2007 out of Wofford College.
Phipps is batting .261 with four home runs and 29 runs batted in. Phipps is a native of the Dominican Republic and is in his second season with the Dragons.
Montano (mon-TAHN-yo) leads the team in victories with six (tied for fourth in the league). He is 6-3 with a 4.45 ERA in 11 starts. Montano is a native of the Dominican Republic who signed with the Reds as a free agent in 2003.
Krebs is 5-2 with four saves and a 2.43 ERA in 19 appearances out of the bullpen. Krebs is a product of the University of Texas who was selected in the 14th round of the 2007 draft by the Reds.
Jeffords is 2-1 with a 2.83 ERA in 18 relief appearances. Jeffords was selected by the Reds in the 19th round of the 2007 draft out of the University of South Carolina.
The Dragons host West Michigan Tuesday and Wednesday. Both games start at 7:00 p.m. at Fifth Third Field.
