Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
Omaha third baseman Kelvin Gutierrez smacked four hits and drove in three runs while right fielder Brett Phillips clubbed a game-tying home run, however Salt Lake center fielder Michael Hermosillo homered twice and drove in four runs as the Bees topped the Storm Chasers 12-11 in ten innings in front of 6,389 fans on Wednesday night at Werner Park.
With Omaha trailing by three in the last of the eighth, Phillips bashed his 16th longball of the year, a three-run blast to right, to even the contest at 9-9 and force extra innings. Salt Lake quickly struck in the tenth, however, aided by a two-run double by DH Jose Rojas. After Storm Chasers C Xavier Fernandez slapped a two-run homer to left in the bottom of the frame, Omaha was unable to bring across any more runs despite loading the bases.
Gutierrez (4-5, R, 3 RBI, BB) posted a game-high four knocks, with Fernandez (3-3, 2 R, HR, 3 RBI) and 1B Erich Weiss (2-4, 2 R, HR, RBI, BB) each adding multi-hit efforts as well. In addition to Hermosillo (2-5, 2 R, 2 HR, 4 RBI, BB), four other Bees batters tallied two knocks, including Rojas (2-5, 2B, 2 RBI, BB) and C Josh Thole (2-4, 3 R, HR, 2 RBI, BB), who each drove in two runs as well.
Salt Lake righty Jeremy Rhoades (2.0 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, ER, 3 BB, 3 K) earned the victory, while Omaha reliever Jonathan Dziedzic (3.0 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 2 K) suffered the defeat.
The two teams are set to face off in the second contest of their three-game set on Thursday evening, with first pitch slated for 7:05pm CT.
Tickets for that game and all remaining Storm Chasers home contests can be purchased online at www.omahastormchasers.com, or by calling the Werner Park Ticket Office from noon until 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday at (402) 738-5100.
