Dayton Dragons News Release
Dayton, Ohio - The Burlington Bees battled back from an early three-run deficit to defeat the Dayton Dragons 9-4 on Friday night at Fifth Third Field. The Bees have taken the first two games of the three-game set that will conclude on Saturday night. A crowd of 8,132 was in attendance.
The game opened with each team's lead-off hitter connecting on a home run. Burlington's Jordyn Adams hit the second pitch of the game over the left field fence for his second homer of the year, and Dayton's Shard Munroe opened the bottom of the first with a home run to right, his second of the year, to tie the game at 1-1.
The Dragons went on to add three more runs in the first inning. Mariel Bautista singled, stole second, and went to third on an infield single by Pabel Manzanero that hit the third base bag. After Bren Spillane walked, Miguel Hernandez tripled over the head of the center fielder to bring in all three runners and make it 4-1. Burlington responded with two runs in the second to pull within a run at 4-3.
The Bees scored three runs after two men were out in the top of the fifth to take a 6-4 lead, then added single runs in the sixth and seventh innings to extend their lead to 8-4. They closed out the scoring with a run in the ninth.
The Dragons could not mount much of an attack after the first inning, producing just two hits over the final eight frames. They finished the night with six hits. Hernandez led the way, going 2 for 4 with a double and triple.
Dragons starting pitcher James Marinan (1-4) suffered the loss. He lasted four and two-thirds innings, allowing six runs on eight hits with no walks and six strikeouts. Alexis Diaz followed Marinan and tossed two innings, allowing two runs on three hits with three walks and five strikeouts. Carlos Machorro, who joined the Dragons earlier in the day on Friday, replaced Diaz with two outs in the seventh and worked two and one-third innings. Machorro pitched well, allowing just one hit and one run with no walks and two strikeouts.
Notes: Reliever Julio Pinto was promoted from Dayton to Daytona on Friday, while Machorro came in from extended spring training to replace Pinto on the roster.
