Beloit Sky Carp News Release
BELOIT, WI - The Beloit Snappers dropped the series opener against the Fort Wayne Tincaps by a final score of 8-1. Lester Madden and Nick Osborne paced the Snappers offense, both collecting multi-hit games and recording 4 of the Snappers 6 hits.
For the Snappers, all of their scoring would come off one swift swing of the bat from Lester Madden who would crush a ball just left of the batters eye in centerfield to give the Snappers their first lead of the game. The homer was Madden's first of the season and the first of his minor league baseball career.
Unfortunately, that would be all the scoring for Beloit and it would not be enough to pull out the win, as Fort Wayne would collect 8 runs in the game dominating the contest. Fort Wayne would score at least a run in second, third, fourth, and seventh innings to not only take the win, but bust the game wide open.
For the Snappers on the mound, Chase Cohen got the start and was roughed up. Cohen ended his night after 3.1 IP, 6 ER, 7 H, 3 K, and 4 BB. After Cohen, the Snappers used 4 different pitchers to finish out the final 5.2 innings.
Brandon Withers came out of the bullpen first striking out 2 and throwing 1.2 scoreless innings of baseball. Wandisson Charles would follow giving up 2 runs on 2 H and 2 K in 1.2 innings of work.
Eric MariÃƱez would follow Charles throwing a scoreless 1.1 innings and striking out 3. MariÃƱez has been dominant on the hill so far this year for the Snappers throwing 13.1 innings, while only giving up 1 earned run so far this season.
Lastly, Nick Ward finished the game out throwing a scoreless ninth inning, Ward was the first position player to throw for the Snappers since August 14 last season when Jesus Lage pitched against Wisconsin.
The Beloit Sappers will be back in action tomorrow when we take on the Fort Wayne Tincaps in Game 2 of the series. RHP Reid Birlingmair is slated to get the start tomorrow for Beloit.
