WILKES-BARRE TOWNSHIP, Pa. - Brad Thiessen posted 19 saves in helping the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins to a 4-0 blanking of the HERSHEY BEARS on Friday night at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza.

The BEARS fell behind 1-0 at 2:47 of the opening period after failing to convert on a power play. Alex Grant found the puck in the right corner and sent the puck toward the low slot. After deflecting off of Colin McDonald, the puck bounced off the skate of Patrick McNeill and into the net behind Dany Sabourin.

Joey Mormina then was able to jab the puck across the goal line from the right of Sabourin's net, to give the Penguins a 2-0 lead at 18:15 of the first.

The BEARS opened up the second period with a glorious scoring chance that Thiessen turned away. The Penguins then transitioned through the neutral zone quickly and got the puck ahead to Jason Williams, who beat Sabourin with a backhand shot just 46 seconds into the middle frame to make it 3-0.

Braden Holtby came on in relief of Sabourin after the goal, and watched his team hold the Penguins to just two second-period shots.

The BEARS would earn three more power play chances in the third, including inside the period's final three minutes. But with Holtby pulled for an extra attacker, Mormina launched the puck from his own goal line into the vacated net at 17:17 to round out the scoring.

Sabourin suffered his second straight loss, falling to 3-2-0 in making 10 saves in 20:46 of work. Holtby stopped all nine shots he faced in 38:31 of relief. The BEARS ended the night 0-for-6 on the power play and 1-for-1 on the penalty kill.

HERSHEY will begin a three-game homestand when they host the Binghamton Senators at GIANT Center on Wednesday, November 9 for a 7:00 PM faceoff. Individual tickets for this and all regular-season home games are on sale now by calling (717) 508-BEAR, or by visiting ticketmaster.com.
