Peoria Rivermen News Release
The Chicago Wolves split the weekend series with the Peoria Rivermen earning a 2-1 victory Friday night at Carver Arena. Chicago goaltender Matt Climie stopped 29 of the 30 shots he faced as he held the Rivermen off the board for the final 33:41 of regulation as Peoria dropped to 5-5-1-1 on the season.
The Rivermen outshot the Wolves 11-7 in a fast-paced, but scoreless first period. Peoria was also given three opportunities to convert on the power play, but could not take advantage.
Chicago opened the scoring at the 4:51 mark of the middle frame with their first power play goal in 21 attempts. With the Rivermen in a line change, Climie sent a two-line pass to Anton Rodin for a breakaway. The rookie beat Jake Allen with a high shot for his first of the season.
Peoria tied the game just 1:28 seconds after Rodin goal. Brett Sterling's initial turn around back hand from the slot was kicked right to Derek Nesbitt on the door step and he buried his sixth goal of the year. Nesbitt extended his goal-streak to five games while both Sterling and TJ Hensick extended their AHL-best point streaks to nine games.
Jordan Schroeder gave the Wolves a 2-1 lead with 42 seconds remaining in the second period. Adam Cracknell could not clear the puck from the slot, and Schroeder took the puck away and wristed a shot over the glove of Allen for his second of the year.
The Rivermen went 0-for-6 on the man advantage while the Wolves converted once on their four of their opportunities. Allen stopped 25 of the 27 shots he faced and remains winless on the year (0-3-0-1).
The Rivermen wrap the up the weekend by hosting the Milwaukee Admirals Saturday at 7 p.m. The first 2,500 fans will receive a Rivermen hat courtesy of OSF St. Francis Medical Center. For tickets call (309) 676-1040 or visit www.rivermen.net.
