Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Milwaukee, WI - In a battle of special teams it was the Milwaukee Admirals who came out on top, killing off a season-high eight penalties, while tying a season high with three power-play goals of their own as they posted a 3-1 win over the Charlotte Checkers Friday night at the Bradley Center.
In a first period that was filled with penalties, the team's combined for nine power-play chances, it was the Admirals who were able to convert on their opportunities and jumped out to 2-0 lead after 20 minutes of play.
Kyle Wilson scored the first tally at the 15:15 mark of the first. Ads forward Chris Mueller took a long outlet pass from Ryan Ellis and skated into the Charlotte zone before dropping a pass for Wilson. Wilson grabbed the puck, took three strides and then ripped a slapshot that beat Checkers goalie Mike Murphy high glove side.
Exactly two minutes later Mueller would get the tally off an assist from Wilson. The Checkers had two players in the box putting the Ads on the two-man advantage. Just to the left of Murhpy, Wilson handled the puck and sauced a pass over to Mueller who was able to connect with one-timer before the Charlotte goalie could slide over.
Unlike the opening stanza, no penalties were call in the second. Former Admiral Chris Durno scored the only goal of the frame when he deflected a shot by Milwaukee netminder Jeremy Smith with just under three minutes to play.
Victory Bartley put the Admirals back up by two with his second goal of the season at 8:15 of the third. With the Ads on another power-play Bartley and Taylor Beck played a nice game of give-and-go which ended with Bartley beating Murphy high glove side.
Wilson and Mueller each finished the night with a goal and an assist to pace the offense, while Smith turned aside 28 of 29 shots to improve his record to 5-1-1 on the season.
The Admirals head to Peoria Saturday night to battle the Rivermen at 7:00 pm and then return to the Bradley Center for a pair of games next weekend.
