Binghamton Senators News Release
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Rochester Americans returned to the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena less than a week after their last match-up with the Binghamton Senators. On their last trip the Amerks fell to the B-Sens, 3-1. Friday night Rochester turned the tables, defeating the Senators 3-2 in front of a sellout crowd of 4,710.
The Amerks were quick to take the lead as they scored a pair of goals the first three minutes of the game. Jacob Lagace put Rochester on the board at 1:09 of the first as he fired a shot that trickled past B-Sens goaltender Robin Lehner. Zack Kassian followed that up with a goal at 2:33 after chipping away at the puck on a rebound attempt.
Pat Cannone pulled the B-Sens within one, beating Rochester's David Leggio stick side on a power play at 11:12 of the period. Patrick Wiercioch and Corey Cowick assisted on the play.
Rochester began the second period much like they did the first. Marcus Foligno increased the Amerks lead by two, 3-1, scoring his fourth goal of the season just 1:39 the period. Mark Voakes earned the lone assist on the tally, his second of the night after assisting on Lagace's first period goal.
Frank Lessard answered for Binghamton at the 7:35 mark as he tipped in a cross-ice pass from Mark Borowiecki. The B-Sens' enforcer also dropped the gloves twice with Rochester's Joe Finley, much to the delight of the hometown crowd.
The Amerks outshot the B-Sens 12 to 6 in the third period, but failed to add to their lead. Rochester held on for the 3-2 final.
After being reassigned to Binghamton by Ottawa earlier in the day, Lehner stopped 32 of 35 shots as he fell to 4-3-0 on the season. His counterpart Leggio turned away 29 of 31 to improve to 3-3-0.
The B-Sens host the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins Saturday at 7:05 p.m. Tickets are $18.50 for side seating, $17.50 for end seating. Fans can purchase tickets at www.ticketmaster.com, by phone at 1-800-745-3000 or in person at the Binghamton Senators' executive office or the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena box office.
