Bay FC News Release
SAN JOSE, Calif. - Three more Bay FC players are set to join their respective national team squads during the upcoming April international window, as announced earlier this week. Bay FC defender Anouk Denton will join the England U-23 national team in Spain for the WU23 European Competition, defender Aldana Cometti will join Argentina, and forward Cristiana Girelli will join the Italian national team for a pair of 2027 World Cup qualifying matches.
Denton will join England's ranks for the first time as a member of Bay FC. She made her NWSL debut in March, coming on as a second-half substitute in Bay FC's season opener vs. Denver Summit FC March 14. The Arsenal product tallied her first start in NWSL play March 28 at the North Carolina Courage and has logged 110 minutes across three matches in 2026. She previously featured for England's senior squad last December in friendly action.
Cometti made her Bay FC debut last Saturday in the club's 3-1 win over North Carolina, starting and playing all 90 minutes. She joined Bay FC via transfer in March from French side FC Fleury and has represented the Argentina Women's National Team since 2014. The defender is one of her nation's most decorated senior footballers, ranking as her squad's all-time appearances leader at the senior international level, serving as the team's captain and featuring at two World Cups and four Copa America's.
Girelli returns to Italy's squad as it takes on Serbia April 14 and Denmark April 18 in a pair of qualifying matches for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup. The Italian legend has made a strong impression with her new club, recording an assist in each of her first two matches for Bay FC. The veteran striker has represented Italy at the senior level since 2013, amassing over 120 caps and 61 goals.
The trio joins a collection of their teammates selected to represent their respective nations during the April international window earlier this week. Forwards Alex Pfeiffer and Onyeka Gamero (USA U-20), midfielder Claire Hutton (United States), midfielder Taylor Huff and goalkeeper Jordan Silkowitz (USA U-23), and defenders Sydney Collins and Brooklyn Courtnall (Canada) were each selected to rosters earlier this week. In total, 10 Bay FC players will participate in international competitions from April 7-18 for five federations.
Bay FC is back in action from PayPal Park this Sunday, April 5 as the Washington Spirit visits the Bay Area. Bay FC will celebrate its Hello Kitty© Match, offering an exclusive Hello Kitty© ticket bundle available while supplies last at BayFC.com/tickets. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. PT and the match will broadcast live on ESPN2. Visa is Bay FC's preferred way to pay for tickets.
