Worcester Red Sox News Release

WORCESTER, M.A. - Another strong start by Kyle Barraclough led the Worcester Red Sox (26-16, 65-52) to a 3-1 win over the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (22-19, 56-59) on Friday night at Polar Park.

Barraclough set career highs in innings and strikeouts, earning the win in perhaps the best outing of his sterling Triple-A season. The right-hander tossed 6.2 innings of one-run ball, striking out 11, his second game of the season with double-digit punchouts.

Barraclough earned the win, dropping his ERA to 2.40 and improving to 8-0 in nine Triple-A appearances (9-0 between Worcester and Boston).

Offensively, the WooSox offense gave their starter early run support, thanks to a second-inning home run. With a man on, Enmanuel Valdez muscled a pitch over the Worcester Wall in right, his tenth Triple-A homer and 14th including the Major Leagues.

That 2-0 lead held until the fifth, when SWB got one of its two hits on the night against Barraclough, a leadoff solo homer by Andres Chaparro.

But Worcester's offense answered immediately in the bottom of the inning-David Hamilton worked a one-out walk, then stole second and third. After a strikeout, Wilyer Abreu laced an RBI single to left-center, extending the home team's lead to 3-1.

Hamilton now has a league-leading 48 stolen bases, doing it in 83 games, while Abreu has an International League-best 22 RBI in the month of August.

Out of the bullpen, Joe Jacques got the final out of the seventh, then tossed a scoreless eighth. Justin Garza earned his second Triple-A save of the year the hard way, loading the bases before inducing a double play to end the ballgame. Altogether, Worcester pitching allowed a season-low two hits, improving the team's record to 25-26 in games decided by two runs or fewer.

The WooSox continue the six-game series on Saturday afternoon at 4:05 p.m. against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, affiliate of the New York Yankees. On the mound, Brian Van Belle (2-2, 7.24) faces Edgar Barclay (0-1, 4.97). Television coverage is on NESN+, while radio coverage is live on 98.9 Nash Icon and the WooSox Radio Network.
